Experience
Tutoring provides me the opportunity to work with students and connect with them in a manner that influences their enjoyment of a subject. My passion is science and math because it explains how the world works, how nature works, and how all the phenomenon around us work. I want all students to enjoy science and math, and understand how they impact us in our daily lives. As I watch the learning process unfold, I am able to watch those connections being made, and nothing brings me greater satisfaction than seeing that moment when a student has that clarity and feels empowered that they mastered something they thought they never could. I take a collaborative approach to teaching to ensure thorough understanding of the material, allowing students to also enjoy the learning process, and focus on pertinent applications of the material extending beyond the scope of a single assignment. I like to break concepts down into smaller, easy-to-manage parts, and then bring them back together once each part is mastered. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and after 10 years as a police officer, decided to change careers to positively impact people through teaching. I will complete my Master's in Education at the end of the year. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my 4 children, and I am also interested in photography and reading. I have been tutoring science and math for the past year at the local community college.
